Income–tax (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 2018 by way of CBDT notification has brought a progressive yet interesting change in the PAN application forms, 49A and 49AA.

49A is required for PAN application for Indian citizens, Indian companies, Entities incorporated in India, Unincorporated entities formed in India.

While 49AA is for rest of the cases.

Both the forms require furnishing gender in its point no. 4 for individual applicants. Until now it had only two options to select from, Male and Female.

By this amendment, both the forms will now provide with three options in the point no. 4 to the applicants as Male, Female and Transgender.

It is yet another progressive step towards exclusivity and rights of transgender individuals.

CBDT took small yet commendable decision towards financial inclusiveness of transgender individuals.
